Guy Daniels Memorial Foundation
The foundation has awarded more than $150,000 in scholarships to 100+ Grand Strand students and lifeguards through donations from its live beach camera.
Why this camera exists
Guy Daniels grew up surfing and guarding this stretch of sand. He died in 1999, nineteen years old. His family and friends turned the loss into something that keeps giving back to the kids who grew up here.
For 27 years the memorial has served this beach. The surf contest is over. The purpose is not.
The foundation now runs a free camera from a beach Guy knew well. The people who check it each morning pay its costs. The remaining donations help a Grand Strand student with a tuition bill.
The camera runs on donations. Five dollars a month covers a day of streaming and puts the rest toward the awards.

Where the money goes
One graduating Grand Strand high school senior
The foundation gives this scholarship to one graduating Grand Strand high school senior entering a first year at an accredited United States college.
The foundation opens applications each spring, and students can write to surf@surfoff.com for application details.

This fellowship supports one graduate student who studies marine science.

One Surfside Beach lifeguard
$500
This cash award goes to one Surfside Beach lifeguard. This award is the reason the foundation exists.
After Guy died, his father Jim Daniels asked Guy's former beach service owner for a lifeguard of the year award in Guy's name.
The foundation and the Surfoff grew from that request.

This is a new printing of the original design from the Socastee Surf Club that Guy helped start. His classmate Javier Vega drew it. The original shirt stays with the family and may be the only one left.
